Private Residences @ Cove Drive

Private Residences @ Cove Drive

Location

Cove Drive, Sentosa – Singapore

Specifications

To provide slope stabilisation for plant media confinement to enable planting on the pitched and horizontal rooftop of the seaside bungalow.

Solution

Water retention and a base drainage layer is provided by VersiDrain® 25P water retention and drainage trays. A geotextile filter fabric is then installed blanketing the water retention and drainage trays.

For added security and strength, VersiWeb® panels are installed straddling the horizontal rooftop and the steep slope of the concrete roof to be planted. The honeycombed cells of VersiWeb® contain and confine the planting media for the establishment of a refreshing crown of grass. VersiWeb® uniformly distributes weight-bearing loads and prevents planting media and the carpet of grass from being dislodged and sliding down the steep sloping roof. Perforations in the cell walls of VersiWeb® facilitate inter-cell drainage and prevent hydrostatic build-up.

Besides setting the bungalow apart from its immediate neighbours, the resultant green slopes are aesthetically pleasing and form an effective shield against the intense tropical sun, helping to protect and prolong lifespan of the waterproofing on the roof. The green roof also helps to keep interior living spaces cool and surrounding ambient temperatures down, mitigating UHIE.

Private Residences @ Cornwall Gardens

Location

Cornwall Gardens, Singapore

Specifications

To provide paver support and conceal services in a reflective pool feature at the front façade of the residential bungalow.

Solution

VersiPave® pedestals with height raised with 2 extenders were positioned in the shallow side of the pool. Height adjustments and compensation for fall in the floor slab were easily carried out with the aid of individually adjustable chocks at each quadrant of the pedestals. Underwater lights inserted into the centre hollow core of VersiPave® pedestals placed at strategic locations in the pond provide illumination beneath water level. Pipes and services are effectively concealed below the raised pavers. VersiJack® pedestals support the pavers at the deep end of the pool which houses the pump and filter system. To enable the submissible lights to be installed at the deep end of the pond, VersiPave® paver supports were secured to the top of VersiJack® pedestals with connectors.

The reflective pool accentuated by a bonsai tree at the centre and a green wall backdrop creates a therapeutic zen-like ambience and oriental feel.

National Heart Centre Singapore

Location

Hospital Drive, Singapore General Hospital

Specifications

To provide support for installation of pavers
To provide sub-surface drainage modules to facilitate efficient drainage in planter boxes

Solution

VersiJack®
VersiJack® pedestals were extended to appropriate heights and positioned directly over the floor slab to support heavy 600 x 600 x 50mm pavers. A screw-adjust and an integrated locking ring system allowed easy height adjustments and confirmed heights to be secured. Slope Correctors allowed compensation for any slope to fall in the floor slab to facilitate drainage beneath the raised pavers whilst Spacer Tabs enabled constant gaps to be maintained between the pavers. Rubber shims were placed over the Spacer Tabs on the pedestal tops both to make minor height adjustments and provide insulation to reduce vibration and sound transfer. The raised pavers create attractive safe, dry and level open spaces and pathways at the hospital’s landscaped sky gardens.
VersiCell®
VersiCell® sub-surface drainage modules were installed at the base and also the sides of planter boxes at the sky gardens. Healthy plant growth is sustained by providing the necessary drainage to prevent waterlogging and ponding in the planter boxes. A geotextile was laid over the modules and 100mm of sand placed on top before infill of approved soil media for planting.
The planter boxes and paved open areas and pathways in the sky gardens create a greener and cooler new heart centre with a therapeutic environment.

ArtScience Museum

Location

Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

Specifications

To provide pedestal support for granite pavers around the central atrium of the Lotus-inspired Museum and provide a viewing platform for patrons.

Solution

VersiJack® pedestals support granite pavers to a height of more than 600mm, bringing the paver surface level with the lotus pond forming the surrounding moat. The pedestals are easy to install and are height and slope adjustable to achieve a firm and level paver surface. Unsightly services are hidden beneath the raised pavers but are readily accessible for maintenance when required. The paver deck also provides the capillary break necessary to eliminate efflorescence. Spacer tabs maintain a uniform gap between pavers that allow water to freely drain away and the pavers to dry out quickly.

The paved deck forms a grand viewing area around the central atrium where patrons are able to enjoy from all angles, the lotus pond and the corresponding picturesque backdrop.

Rasa Sentosa Resort

Location

Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore

Specifications

To provide a modular green wall system to enable vertical greening, both along the front pavement corridor and at the lobby of the beachfront resort hotel.

Solution

A stainless steel framework is constructed to enable the green wall at the lobby to tower beyond the height of the wall beside the staircase spiraling from the basement to the lobby at ground level. To allow adequate time for plant establishment, Vertical Greening Modules (VGMs), comprising a geotextile bag filled with soil-less lightweight planting media were pre-planted in a nursery environment about 8 to 12 weeks prior to installation. Metal support brackets are attached to the VGMs on-site enabling the them to be easily and firmly anchored to pilasters secured to the steel framework or directly to the wall. The Elmich modular green wall system allows easy mounting and dismounting of individual VGMs for maintenance or replacement whenever necessary.

Automated drip irrigation and fertilisation systems were installed for each of the walls.

The inviting living wall at the front corridor greet guests and visitors as they arrive at the resort and the towering green wall at the lobby sets the mood for a refreshing stay at Singapore’s only beachfront resort.

Specifications

To provide strong and secure paver support to support heavy pre-cast concrete sections weighing up to 5 tonnes to be raised 900 mm off the base structure.

Solution

Elmich Green Wall System, consisting of Vertical Greening Modules (VGMs) housing a geotextile bag containing soil-less lightweight planting media was specified for this project. McDonald’s Jurong Central Park

Location

Jurong Central Park

Specifications

To provide the Green Roof system to facilitate planting on the mushroom-shaped concrete pitch roof of the McDonald’s restaurant at Jurong Central Park.

Solution

The steep gradient of the mushroom-shaped roof necessitated metal restraining barriers to be installed before VersiDrain® 25P drainage and water retention trays, cut to fit the individual compartments created by the restrainers, were positioned. A filter fabric is laid over the trays and a lightweight and primarily inorganic planting media placed on top for the planting of a carpet of pearl grass.

A network of cells in VersiDrain® 25P act as little reservoirs to retain water which is returned, via capillary action, to the planting media during dry spells, maintaining a healthy carpet of green over the eye-catching roof of the restaurant.

An automated irrigation system was incorporated on the roof for use during the initial plant establishment and to deliver regular irrigation when necessary.

The result is a refreshing carpet of green which blends unobtrusively into the green environment of the park.
