Specifications

To provide underground tank facilities for infiltration and filtration of stormwater before discharge into the local storm drain network and to create rain garden dry pond features at the foot of 2 HDB Apartment blocks in Punggol Lodge

Solution

Large pits were excavated to specification at the foot of the 2 HDB apartment blocks. The base of each pit is compacted and leveled with a layer of coarse sand and lined with geotextile. VersiTank® units were then assembled on-site and positioned in the pits and covered over with geotextile lapped and sealed at all joints to envelope each tank installed.

The geotextile filter fabric allows rainwater to readily pass or percolate through into the tank but ensures that solids, including mud and clay, are filtered and prevented from entering the tanks below. Water that percolate into the tank, either slowly infiltrates into the surrounding substrate or is channeled into connected pipes linked to the immediate drainage network for the clear filtered stormwater to be discharged. The sides and the top of the pits are backfilled with coarse sand, completing the dry pond features.

The areas surrounding the dry ponds are landscaped, creating rain garden features which provide a refreshing and therapeutic respite for residents in the immediate vicinity returning home from a hard day at work.
