Marina Barrage

Marina Barrage

Location

Marina Barrage – Marina Channel, Singapore

Specifications

To provide efficient drainage and waterproofing membrane protection under 14,000 m2 of turfed areas over the sloping roof of the Marina Barrage.

Solution

VersiCell lightweight interlocking modules were positioned directly onto the waterproofing membrane immediately forming an insulation layer protecting the membrane and then covered over with geotextile. Planting media was then positioned on the geotextile and turf installed. VersiCell’s lightweight structure, high compressive strength, rapid water capture and highly efficient drainage capability as well as its ability to be easily joined into large panels on site made it the ideal drainage module for the extensively large sloping roof of the Marina Barrage.

Greenwood Sanctuary @Admiralty

Location

Greenwood Sanctuary @Admiralty – Singapore

Specifications

To provide facility for infiltration and filtration of stormwater before discharge into the local storm drain network and creating dry pond features in the park.

Solution

Eleven pits were excavated to specification in the compound of the park. Each pit is compacted and levelled with a layer of coarse sand and lined with geotextile. VersiTank units were positioned in the pits according to pre-planned designs and covered over with geotextile lapped and sealed at all joints to envelope each tank.

The geotextile allows rainwater to readily pass but ensures that solids, including mud and clay, are filtered and prevented from entering the tanks below. Sand is levelled over the geotextile and topped with a coarse aggregate layer.

Pipes were then installed connecting the tanks either directly to a discharge outlet or to other inter-connected underground tanks sharing the same discharge outlet. Subsequently a fine aggregate layer is added and finished with sand to create dry pond features.

Orchard Central Mall

Location

Orchard Central Mall – Singapore

Specifications

To provide a modular green wall system to enable vertical greening of a series of 3 high walls totalling 160 m2 and a section of the corridor on the 11th storey and 2 separate lower walls on the 12th storey totalling 45 m2.

Solution

Anchoring pilasters were welded onto steel support beams installed onto the walls. VGMs, comprising a geotextile bag filled with soil-less lightweight planting media were pre-planted in a nursery environment to allow for plant establishment. The VGMs were encased in metal support frames on-site and mounted onto the pilasters and a drip irrigation system installed. This green wall system allows easy mounting and dismounting of individual VGMs for maintenance or replacement if necessary. The green walls complement and create the atmosphere for al fresco dining on the 2 uppermost floors of the Mall.
