Firefly Park @ Clementi

Firefly Park @ Clementi

Location

304 Clementi Ave 4, Singapore

Specifications

To provide green alternative to concrete drains within the park to control, manage and reduce rainwater runoff from the park at source.

Solution

VersiTanks were assembled on site and positioned within linear excavations in accordance with the landscape design of the park to allow water to flow and be channeled to outlets where the gradient of the park is lowest for discharge into the local drainage network.
A 100mm layer of coarse sand was first placed at the base of the excavated trenches and compacted. A geotextile was laid to completely envelope VersiTank installed in a continuous row within the trenches. The geotextile filter fabric allows rainwater to percolate through into the tank below but not suspended solids. Sumps were installed at intervals along the length of the swale to facilitate maintenance and easy inspection. The excavations were filled in with coarse sand up to 100mm above the geotextile.
The bioswale allows drainage within the park to be vegetated replacing conventional concrete drains which do not blend into the greenery of the park. Phytoremediation by the plants of the vegetated swale helps to remove organic contaminants and reduce suspended pollutants carried by runoff at source. In addition to allowing the overall landscape design of the park to remain seamlessly green, the system prevents waterlogged grounds and enables the integration of more usable recreational space within the park.
The slow percolation and infiltration process together with the inherent water retention capability of the bioswale network also minimises downstream impact from high volumes of water in downpours that often cause flooding.

To provide pedestal system to support bearers for installation of wooden decking over sloping surface of a former putting green.

Solution

VersiJack® pedestals were used to support bearers for installation of the raised wooden decking. A combination of different VersiJack® pedestals were used to allow various adjustments to different heights on the sloping surface of the defunct putting green of the condominium. Slope Correctors were used on the pedestals to enable a level decking surface to be maintained whilst supporting bearers were secured to Bearer Holders on the pedestals to ensure that they do not shift and remained firmly in place during and after installation of the wooden decking. Integrated Locking Rings enabled confirmed pedestal heights to be secured.
The finished wooden 80 m2 decking platform enabled the unusual sloping ground of the former putting green to be transformed into a level recreational space that blends into the landscaped gardens and luxuriant greenery of the condominium.

Specifications

To provide root-resistant waterproofing membrane.

To provide the Landscape Roof system for intensive green roof installation on the rooftop of the multi-storey car park.

Solution

Evalon
Waterproofing protection for the roof skin beneath the green roof was provided by a root-resistant fully adhered layer of Evalon PVC/EVA terpolymer membrane, suited for intensive green roof applications.

Elmich Landscape Roof
6,000 sq m of VersiCell® drainage modules were installed beneath the geotextile filter fabric layer and the planting soil above. The drainage cavity created enables rapid transport of excess water to drainage points on the roof, preventing waterlogging at the planted roof decks, green balconies and planter boxes of the E-deck. Laid directly on the waterproofing membrane, the modules also provide a protection layer that prolongs the serviceable life of the membrane.
The landscape roof mitigates urban heat island effect by sheltering the car park roof from the sun, reducing surrounding ambient temperature and transference of heat to the car park below. Installed with large shady trees and resembling a garden park, the living roof provides additional amenity space. The landscape roof also played a pivotal part in the precinct clinching Singapore’s first Green Mark Platinum Award Public Housing Project.

Specifications

To provide Green Roof System for extensive green roofs on the RC rooftops of the hotel

Solution

VersiDrain® 25P water retention and drainage trays were placed directly over the waterproofing membrane on the RC rooftops followed by a geotextile filter fabric that allowed lightweight EnviroMix® GR planting media to be placed on the trays for planting of selected drought-tolerant plants that require little or no maintenance.

VersiDrain® 25P facilitates efficient drainage on approximately 800 sq m of green roofs. Water and nutrients collected in the tray’s reservoir is returned via capillary action to the planting media during dry spells, sustaining healthy plants with minimal maintenance. An automated irrigation system consisting of a network of irrigation lines over the green roofs regulated by a centralised control panel was incorporated to deliver regular supply of water and nutrients to the plants.

Fountain Feature @ Mandarin Oriental Hotel

Location

Jalan Pinang, Kuala Lumpur City Centre, 50088 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Specifications

To provide the pedestal system to support installation of pavers at water fountain feature at entrance of hotel.

Solution

The large granite pavers of the water fountain feature are supported by VersiJack height and slope adjustable pedestals.

Constant gaps between pavers were maintained using Spacer Tabs mounted on the pedestal tops. These gaps allow water from the fountain spouts to drain through into the space below upon coming into contact with the paver surface. The pump mechanism and required cabling for the pump system for the fountain as well as services required for lighting are safely and unobtrusively hidden in the void space created beneath the raised pavers. VersiJack’s resistance to mould and algae make it the perfect choice when used in water features.

The fountain is turned on near dusk each day and comes alive with a synchronized display of water, lights and colour, making it an easily identifiable prominent landmark at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre in the evening.

Ramada Hotel & Zhongsan Mall

Location

16 Ah Hood Road, Singapore

Specifications

To provide the pedestal systems for installation of pavers at the Pool Deck of Ramada Hotel and to support bearer joists for installation of wooded decking at the perimeter corridors of the Zhongshan Mall, and also the pathways between the building and water features of Zhongshan Park.

Solution

Office of Estate and Development NUS

Location

8 Kent Ridge Drive, Singapore

Specifications

To provide the pedestal system for installation of raised concrete slab pavers on the rooftop of the building (VersiJack®)

To provide extensive green roof system to enable planting on the rooftop (VersiDrain® 25P)

Solution

VersiJack® pedestals were used to support concrete pavers on the rooftop garden to create a raised paver deck to form walkways around shallow planter boxes.

The VersiJack® pedestals allowed easy progressive height adjustments and slope correction. A constant gap between individual pavers to facilitate surface drainage was maintained by the use of Spacer Tabs while the pedestals’ integrated Locking Rings secured paver heights.

The raised paver platform allows water to drain quickly away and eliminates unsightly efflorescence forming on the paver surface. It also provides a convenient cavity that allows miscellaneous services to be hidden. Heat transference from the paver surface to the office space beneath the roof garden is also minimized. Efficient surface drainage also keeps the rooftop dry for safe enjoyment of the roof garden.

VersiDrain® 25P drainage and water retention trays were laid over the cement and sand screed protecting the waterproofing membrane in the planter boxes on the rooftop. A lightweight inorganic planting media spread on a geotextile filter fabric placed over the trays enabled the establishment of selected drought-tolerant plants.

Stored water in the tray reservoir, transferred via capillary action to the plant media, provides irrigation in dry spells. When required, easy supplementary irrigation is delivered by a network of irrigation tubes installed in the planter boxes.
