28th to 30th September marked the third installation of ArchXpo, an annual exhibition of architecture and the built environment. 7,000 trade professionals were in attendance and 170 exhibitors participated, transforming the exhibition halls into a bustling hub showcasing architectural and built environment technologies, products and related services.
Leading landscape engineering designer and manufacturer Elmich has launched a modular green wall system VersiWall® GT (VGT) which fulfils fire safety requirements, particularly for indoor green walls.
Urbanisation has led to both population and economic growth in the cities and the biggest challenge of greening in highly-urbanised areas, is space. Owners, architects, designers and professionals in the built industry are embracing vertical gardens, also termed as vertical greenery, green walls or living walls in their projects as an alternative interior façade. The popularity of vertical gardens in buildings was driven by the innovative use of unused spaces, its aesthetic value, environmental benefits and improving the wellbeing of its occupants.
National Gallery Singapore was opened on 24th November after a decade of building and preparations. The opening was celebrated with gusto, gathering 170,000 people within the first two weeks. This modern art museum was converted from the former Supreme Court and City Hall buildings, both of which were built in the 1900s. The two historic monuments were combined and transformed into one grand museum without losing the integrity of their original architecture.
The Greenbuild International Conference and Expo is the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated to green building. More Than 18,000 attendees and 531 exhibitors gathered at Greenbuild. This year, Elmich was privileged to be invited once again by the Building & Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore to exhibit at the Singapore Pavillion.
Green Living 2016, the eco lifestyle event, was held at Marina Bay Sands from 9th to 11th September 2016. During this time, visitors had a fun-filled yet educational time learning about sustainability and the importance of going green. Elmich was proud to be part of this event with its enticing vertical garden measuring 40 square metres filling the venue with a refreshing atmosphere.

This year, it will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Centre from 5th to 7th October. Greenbuild is an event where members of the green building community who share this interest meet; creating a synergy that lasts throughout the 3 day show. The show promises to keep visitors engaged with their various speakers, the many networking opportunities, showcases, workshops and tours lined up.

Green Thumbs 2016 was held on Saturday, 24 September at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. The park was buzzing with activity and excitement from morning to evening with its truckload of activities. Mr Desmond Lee, Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development was at the event announcing a funding boost of $5.6 million over the next four years for Singapore’s landscape industry.
The Civic District is the birthplace of modern Singapore and marks the beginning of the country’s historical, architectural and cultural heritage. Plans for the Civic District enhancement works were revealed during the Draft Master Plan 2013 exhibition and will be completed in phases by end 2016.
