To facilitate planting on the RC rooftop of the Car Park to provide a Green Roof that is attractive and offers effective thermal insulation to reduce urban heat island effect.

Solution

VersiDrain 25P drainage and water retention trays were installed over the waterproofing membrane. Geotextile was then laid over the VersiDrain 25P and EnviroMix GR lightweight inorganic planting media positioned evenly on top followed by planting of various drought tolerant and colourful plant species arranged in attractive patterns. Water retained by the trays during wet periods is returned to the planting media by capillary action during dry spells to maintain healthy plants.

To provide waterproofing membrane protection prior to casting and under-screed drainage to allow entrapped water in the screed to discharge and prevent moisture and salts below the sheet from migrating to the surface.

Solution

VersiDrain 6P sheets, installed prior to casting over the waterproofing membrane, offer immediate protection against inadvertent membrane penetration or damage due to installation of various services on the roof. Insulation boards were positioned over VersiDrain 6P and covered with geotextile fabric followed by a reinforcing wire mesh on top. The capillary break created by the sheets between structural slab and topping screed prevents water and salts in the screed from migrating upward minimising efflorescence and also reduces possibility of cracking on the surface.

To provide modular vertical greening system for 4 in-door green walls at the car park on the 2nd floor of the shopping centre.

Solution

Anchoring pilasters and a drip irrigation system to deliver water and nutrients to the plants were installed onto the 4 wall panels. Pre-planted VGMs, each comprising a geotextile bag filled with lightweight planting media and encased in metal support frames were mounted onto the pilasters. Artificial lighting was installed to supply the light source for sustaining plant growth in an indoor environment and a shallow metal trough placed beneath each wall to collect and drain away excess water.

To provide modular vertical greening system for 3 free-standing decorative green walls at the void deck of the shopping mall.

Solution

Free-standing metal frameworks were installed in troughs and anchoring pilasters installed on both sides of each framework. VGMs, pre-planted in a controlled nursery environment were mounted to both sides of each framework enabling the free-standing green walls to be viewed and enjoyed from either side. Elements of design were also incorporated requiring the sides of each green wall installation to be covered with steel cladding and the troughs covered with granite pavers to conceal the base of the support framework with the addition of a precision water-jet fountain in one of the troughs.

Pasir Ris Park

To provide slope stabilisation for plant media confinement and sub-surface drainage and water retention to enable planting on the RC pitch roofs of the activity shed cum shelter and toilets at the entrance to the Park.

Solution

VersiDrain 25P® drainage and water retention trays were installed directly onto the RC roof tops and a geotextile filter fabric positioned over the trays. In addition to functioning as a sub-surface drainage, the network of cells in VersiDrain 25P® trays retain water which is returned, via capillary action, to the planting media during dry periods, helping to maintain and sustain healthy plants.

 

VersiWeb® cellular confinement panels were then placed over the geotextile fabric within the raised curb borders of the roofs and the expandable cells filled with EnviroMix® GR, a lightweight inorganic planting media. The honeycombed cells of VersiWeb® contain and confine the planting media on which locally-sourced drought tolerant plants requiring minimal maintenance were planted. VersiWeb® uniformly distributes weight-bearing loads and prevents planting media and plants from being dislodged and sliding down the sloping roofs.

 

The green roofs blend into the green ambience of the Park and also help to keep the interior and activity spaces beneath them cool.

Specifications

To facilitate planting on top of existing metal Corus Kalzip roof to provide an attractive green roof that will assimilate well into the natural ambience of the Park, serve as thermal insulation and also help to reduce noise transference during heavy rainfall.

Solution

To prevent plant media movement, aluminium battens were anchored onto the metal sloping roof and VersiCell drainage modules were placed between the metal ribs to provide an insulating barrier and a level surface for the subsequent installation of VersiDrain 25P drainage and water retention trays. A geotextile filter fabric was then positioned over the drainage and retention trays and EnviroMix GR lightweight inorganic planting media placed over the filter fabric. Locally sourced plant species selected for their hardiness, colour, height and ability to tolerate high tropical rainfall followed by hot and dry periods and requiring minimal maintenance were planted.

To provide a modular vertical greening system to enable planting of a wall specifically erected for demonstration and display of various green wall systems at the HortPark.

Solution

Steel anchoring pilasters were installed on the full face of the wall with careful attention to alignment. VGMs holding primarily soil-less lightweight planting media contained in a geotextile bag were pre-planted in a nursery environment. Front and rear metal support frames are added to the VGMs on site to provide reinforcement and facilitate anchorage onto the pilasters. A drip irrigation system delivers timed release of water and nutrients to the plants. VGMs can be individually dismounted from and re-mounted onto the pilasters to allow for easy maintenance or replacement if necessary.

Solution

A steel support frame was installed providing the centre skeleton and anchoring support. VGMs each containing a geotextile bag filled with specially mixed soil-less lightweight planting media and pre-planted in a nursery environment were mounted directly onto both sides of the centre anchoring support. Water and nutrients to sustain plant growth is supplied by a drip irrigation system.
