Specifications

To install indoor green wall panels along the spiral stairway leading from the basement gallery to the building’s first storey.

Solution

Elmich Vertical Greening Modules (VGMs) were pre-planted in a nursery environment with plants suitable for indoor green wall installation. This ensures that the plants are firmly established and sufficiently pre-oriented to growing out of a vertical environment. The VGMs are anchored onto pilasters secured along the wall of the spiral staircase to form poster-like green wall panels.

A drip irrigation system is incorporated in the system and drainage trays placed below the base of the panels to collect and channel excess water. Artificial lighting, installed on the opposite facing wall and directed at the grren wall, provides the plants with adequate light for healthy plant growth.

The green wall poster-panels help to publicise the Housing Development Boards efforts in promoting the greening of Singapores public housing estates.

Marina Bay City Gallery

Location

Marina Bay City Gallery – Singapore

Specifications

To provide two indoor green wall panels in the City Gallery, behind the reception counter and the Marina Bay table model.

Solution

Elmich Green Wall System was specified for this project. About four months before the system was scheduled to be installed, pre-planting using the Vertical Greening Modules (VGMs), geotextile bag and soil-less lightweight planting media was done at a nursery. This allows firm establishment and pre-orientation of specially selected indoor plants to a vertical format prior to installation. On site, the VGMs are secured in metal support frames and mounted onto pilasters fastened to the wall.

A drip irrigation system is incorporated in the system and a drainage gully installed at the base of the walls to collect and channel excess water. Artificial lighting is provided above the walls to provide the plants with an adequate source of light for healthy plant growth.

A distinctive design feature of the green walls is the flat beams on the walls that artistically connect the lines formed by the supporting pillars of the second floor. This creates a visual flow of lines between the first and second floors.

Hotel Michael, Resorts World Sentosa – Singapore

Specifications

To provide a 3-storey high Green Wall system to be installed along the beverage alley, which serve patrons of the Casino located within Hotel Michael.

Solution

Anchoring pilasters were installed directly onto the wall for the installation of nine 3-storey high green walls, alternating between water features, along the beverage alley beside the Hotel. To allow selected plants to be firmly established, VGMs comprising a geotextile bag filled with soil-less lightweight planting media were pre-planted in a nursery environment. On site, the VGMs were secured in metal support frames and mounted onto the pilasters, with a drip irrigation system installed. The VGM modular green wall system allows individual modules to be dismounted and remounted, facilitating easy maintenance and replacement.

The green walls keep the ambient temperature along the alley cool and provide an aesthetically pleasing green ambience to an otherwise concrete narrow build-up area.

15 Joan Road

Location

15 Joan Road – Singapore

Specifications

To provide extensive planting system to enable planting on top of existing car park polycarbonate shelter in short lead time.

Solution

An aluminium sheet was installed over the rooftop to reinforce the polycarbonate rooftop to accept installation of the MEP® Trays. The lightweight and robust MEP® Trays were pre-planted in a nursery environment prior to installation. By using locally sourced plant species selected for their hardiness, colour and height in individual trays, desired designs and patterns were easily achieved.

The self-contained trays with water storage compartments and a capillary wick system support sustained plant growth with minimal maintenance. The system includes a support plate with anti-root overflow outlet covers, capillary wicks, geotextile filter, confinement grid, joining and fastening pegs, and a drainage network consisting of base connectors and drainage pipes installed independent of the trays. Rodent barriers were installed at the corners of the perimeter trays to prevent rodent pests from infesting the space between trays.

MEP® Tray facilitates the almost instant greening of rooftops and allows associated benefits of the green roof to be immediately realised.

Republic Polytechnic

Republic Polytechnic, Singapore

Specifications

To provide waterproofing membrane protection and efficient sub-soil drainage under the landscaped roof areas on the 20ha site of the campus.

Solution

VersiCell lightweight interlocking modules, positioned over the waterproofing membrane, offers immediate protection for the membrane whilst other installation works were carried out. High compressive strength of the modules made it possible for light machinery to be placed on top without compromising the membrane below. A geotextile filter fabric is installed over the VersiCell and planting soil placed on top. The drainage cells provide the necessary cavity beneath the planted areas to efficiently discharge excess sub-soil water and prevent water-logging on the landscape roof. The resultant lush greenery on the campus grounds has earned the Polytechnic the nickname of “Campus in the Park”.
