Specifications
To provide the system for extensive green roof installation on the metal rooftops of the Polyclinic.
Solution
VersiDrain® 25P drainage and water retention trays were installed over the metal rooftops over which a non-woven geotextile filter fabric was laid. This allowed a primarily inorganic planting media to be spread on top to enable planting. Ground cover plant species selected for their drought-tolerance and colour were used to create visually attractive patterns.
The green roofs turn the otherwise bare and glaring metal rooftops into a visually appealing green respite and become a source of therapeutic and healing stress relief for convalescing patients, visitors, and also the Polyclinic’s staff.
The living roofs form a sun screen that helps to shield and reduce heat absorption by the rooftops. This in turn helps to lower temperature within the polyclinic and ambient temperature of its immediate surroundings. Performing a role that benefits the wider environment, they also help to mitigate urban heat island effect.
