The Royal Condominium, Cambodia

Specifications

To provide sub-surface drainage for the Intensive Green Roof on the rooftop of the condominium.

Solution

Elmich VersiCell® 3050 drainage modules (drain cells) were installed beneath the geotextile filter fabric layer and the planting soil above. The drainage cavity created enables rapid transport of excess water to drainage points on the roof, preventing waterlogging at the planter boxes and roof gardens. Laid directly on the waterproofing membrane, the modules also provide a protection layer that prolongs the serviceable life of the membrane.

Edible Community Garden | Dover Crescent

Location

Edible Community Garden – 28 Dover Crescent, Singapore

Specifications

To construct a sustainable edible garden in under 2 months.

Solution

Designer’s Comments – Breakdown of Structures:

VersiTank® modules were assembled to form garden structures of varying heights and configurations:

“VersiPlanter” (Image 1)

To replicate the idea of a self-watering pot, a 100 mm deep water reservoir was constructed using Euraplan® (waterproofing membrane) at the base. Three layers of VersiDrain® 30 (each 30 mm thick) were then laid on top of the reservoir to support the planting soil above. Geotextile fabric was installed at the base and along the sides to prevent loss of soil during watering. Planting soil was then placed inside to complete the re-purposed system.

“VersiTower” (Image 2)

A two-meter-high tower for the creeper plants was constructed by vertically stacking and interlocking VersiTank® 555 modules with stainless steel wires. The VersiTank® 555 modules at the keeps of the towers was cut at specific areas to allow access for gardeners to the planting soil. The VersiTank® 555 modules at the base of the tower were filled with soil for stability as it acts as a gravitational counterweight for the tower.

“VersiArch” (Image 3)

Smaller and lighter VersiTank® 553 modules were used to construct an arch between the towers. For structural stability and safety, two 25 x 25 mm aluminium square hollow sections were added, spanning through the arch sections.

Raised “VersiPlanter” (Image 4)

Raised planters of varying heights were built, simply by stacking the MEP® Tray on a VersiTank® 553 and onto the “VersiPlanter” structure.

“Vertical Planter”

By installing the purpose-made aluminium carrier bars on the sides of the planters, vertical planter pots could be added to the garden.

Balcony Green Wall Singapore - Elmich

Green Wall at Singapore Garden Festival Hortshow

Location

Singapore Garden Festival Hortshow, Jurong Lake Gardens

Specifications

A modular green wall system for a small balcony of 36 square metres that is quick to install, sustainable, and meets local fire safety requirements.

Solution

Elmich VersiWall®GP Metal (VGP M) system was used to establish the green wall in the balcony design titled “The Capsule Garden” by  G. G. Landscapes + Construction Pte Ltd.

The VGP M system is a modular vertical greening system manufactured using aluminium for indoor green walls that meet the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) fire safety regulations of construction using non-combustible materials.

VGP M is exceptionally durable and can create free-standing green walls or be simply mounted onto concrete walls using either a proprietary rail mounted system or standard wire meshes.

In this installation, several rounded steel brackets were drilled into the plywood booth wall and a wire mesh metal frame was attached. VGP M trays brimming with various species of plants (i.e. Pteris albolineata, Philodendron birkin, Veera fern and Aglaonema auspicious) were then hooked and secured on the wire mesh metal frame.

Additional Information:
– VGP M may be planted in situ or carry up to two conventional 100 mm potted plants for greater interchangeability in temporary displays.

– Each VGP M tray conceals irrigation piping and has multiple drainage outlets to spread overflow over a larger surface onto the trays below.

Massive Green Wall Singapore - Elmich

GRAB Headquarters

Location

Grab Headquarters, Singapore

Specifications

To install a massive green wall that is aesthetic, sustainable, and meets the fire safety requirements.

To incorporate and blend real and artificial plants into the green wall.

To ensure space, drainage & irrigation provision are properly catered.

Solution

Elmich VersiWall®GT (VGT) system was used to establish a massive green wall in Grab’s new office in Singapore.

The VGT system is exceptionally durable. It meets the fire safety requirements for indoor green walls as it is made of anodized aluminium, a non-combustible material.

Modular trays and irrigation system are latched onto rows of hook-on pilaster systems affixed to the backing wall on each green wall. The trays are then secured in place with coupling bolts to prevent them from being dislodged accidentally.

The modular nature of the VGT allows its extruded pilasters and trays to be easily cut to any length to fit any design requirements.

An irrigation system was easily installed and inconspicuously slotted through the irrigation channels of the pilasters. The piping was then concealed behind the plants for a completely green look.

Jurong Lake Gardens, Singapore

Specifications

To create several free-standing green wall columns for garden display.

Solution

Multiple free standing green wall columns were created for the Community Garden Festival 2019, held at Jurong Lake Gardens in the Singapore heartlands.

To create each column, VersiTank® modules were assembled and stacked to create stable, free-standing columns of differing heights which are portable for positioning on-site. Each standing column is wrapped with black acrylic felt to give it a solid black interface. VersiWall® GP  mounting panels were then mounted on all 4 sides of the column, and VersiWall® GP  2060 trays were attached subsequently. A selection of plants reflecting modern gardening trends in Singapore were planted in the VersiWall® GP  2060 trays.

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, 1380 Ang Mo Kio Ave 1, 569930

Specifications

Create green walls for restaurant in a park.

Solution

VersiWall® GP 500 (VGP 500) Green Wall trays were used to establish a green wall stretching across the sides of a Japanese restaurant in a public park.

140 VGP 500 Green Wall trays were mounted on wire mesh panels on the side of the restaurant, and subsequently planted with plants. The modularity of the VGP 500 allows for maintenance and design changes to be carried out with ease. A secure hook system ensures that the trays and plants stay firmly secure even during strong winds or accidental contact.

An integrated water reservoir at the base of each tray allows for increased efficiency of water usage, increasing the sustainability of plant growth and reducing the need for constant watering and maintenance of plants.

Radisson Collection Hotel, Tsinandali Estate Georgia

Location

Tsinandali Village, Tsinandali 2217, Georgia

Specifications

To provide a high quality green wall system for an exterior green façade that wraps around the entirety of a five-star hotel.

Solution

VersiWall® GP (VGP) 2060 trays were mounted on wire mesh secured to the external walls of the hotel. More than 30,000 trays were used to establish the green façade, covering over 1900 square metres of available wall space. VGP 2060 is designed with multiple security features to prevent its accidental dislodgement during high winds. A six-point anchoring system, combined with anti-lift tabs keeps the trays firmly in place even with wind speeds of up to 108km/h.

Each VGP Tray has a water reservoir with a cover designed to allow re-use of stored water via capillary action to sustain plant growth during dry months. During wetter months, sufficient drainage allows excess water to flow into underlying trays, ensuring that all plants get the water they need for healthy growth.
