The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC) is a new 13-storey building with a budget of BN$100 million, regulated by the Ministry of Health. Construction commenced in year 2012 and the establishment will adopt global best practices and bring in state-of-the-art facilities to cater for local patients seeking cancer treatments, thus negating the need for treatments abroad.

Currently, TBCC is recruiting new doctors and health professionals to expand their manpower and training capabilities so that the cancer centre can begin operating full-fledge and contribute towards developing a sustainable health care sector for the nation.

Designed by CIAP Architects Pte Ltd, this international project is one of their many contributions in architectural design of healthcare facilities. Elmich has played a significant part in the incorporation of greenery and assurance of water-tightness of the building.

Multiple planters are incorporated within the landscape decks of TBCC to create several lush green-roof amenities for patients and visitors to relax and recuperate. As green roofs require strict attention to waterproofing details in order to prevent future leakages that are both labour-intensive and expensive to identify, Elmich’s VersiCell® and EVALON® waterproofing system is a resilient solution to provide necessary drainage yet resist any attack from the roots of different plant species.

The paved walkways of the landscape decks are also lined with VersiDrain® 6P for effective drainage under screed, minimising unsightly efflorescence of pavers while protecting any damage to the waterproofing membranes during construction.

In waterproofing other wet areas including the basement, Eurathane® 2000, Fleximent® 201 and Bitulen® SK374 was used.
