On Saturday, May 18, the first-ever VIASTA community festival was launched at Simei MRT’s Viaduct after six months of dedicated research and stakeholder engagement led by the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and SingHealth. Simei residents desired to see underutilised MRT viaducts transformed into inclusive spaces promoting sustainable and healthy living for their community.
Over 300 VersiTank® 555 and 553 modules were assembled and fastened with industrial cable ties to craft innovative booths, seats, and tables, embodying sustainability and adaptability in design. After the festival, the modules were dismantled and repurposed into street furniture within the Simei neighbourhood.
Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat and Ms. Jessica Tan Soon Neo, Advisors to Singapore’s East Coast Grassroots Organisations (GROs), were present at the event and participated in the activities.

About VersiTank®
VersiTank®, made from recycled polypropylene material, is a high-strength and lightweight interlocking sub-surface stormwater infiltration or storage tank which allows water to be discharged into the surrounding soil or via controlled release to connected stormwater pipes or when enveloped in an impervious membrane allows retention or temporary storage of stormwater for re-use or release.
VersiTank® modules are easily assembled on-site by clipping together lightweight, high-strength interlocking panels. Assembled units can be interlocked vertically and horizontally, ensuring the system remains stable under trafficable or high-weight-bearing load areas.
