Recommendations by the panel tasked to look into solving Singapore’s flooding woes, include legislating that building owners build green roofs to improve storm water attenuation. Andy Chew, our Director for Landscape Engineering, said in a Channel News Asia interview:
“For existing buildings, definitely they will need to look at the structure of the building, because the roof does not provide for the kind of loading required by a roof garden.
So we will recommend an extensive roof garden, which will maximise the coverage of the green at the roof top…these kinds of systems are actually lightweight and require minimum maintenance.”
