Nestled at the corner of Orchard Road and Orange Grove Road, beside Shangri-La, the newly opened lifestyle boutique hotel—The Standard, Singapore—makes a striking debut. Designed by the renowned DP Architects in collaboration with its specialist teams—DP Engineers, DP Green, and DP Façade—the architectural concept draws inspiration from The Standard’s quirky brand identity and its roots in 1990s culture.

Upon entering the hotel’s cafe (next to the lobby), guests and patrons are greeted by a tiered landscape garden with spacious seating areas and a gentle flight of steps shrouded in lush greenery that leads up towards the second floor which encompasses a Japanese Izakaya Restaurant (Kaya), an infinity swimming pool, and an open-air botanical courtyard.

Open-Air Botanical Courtyard/Terrace

VersiCell® lightweight, high strength modular drainage cells were installed beneath the soil and within the planter boxes at the botanical courtyard and multi-tiered landscape garden to facilitate efficient drainage of excess water, preventing waterlogging.

VersiWall® GP (VGP) Trays were mounted on VGP proprietary panels, establishing high-quality medium to massive-sized lush green walls. Automated irrigation systems were also built into the green walls, releasing precise amounts of water at predetermined times to sustain the plants.

Each VersiWall® GP (VGP) Tray has a water reservoir with a cover designed to allow re-use of stored water via capillary action to sustain plant growth during dry months. Excess water flows into underlying trays or is discharged through a drainage outlet, ensuring every plant receives the water they need for healthy growth.
