{"id":9087,"date":"2011-05-03T18:55:07","date_gmt":"2011-05-03T07:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/?p=9087"},"modified":"2023-07-20T14:20:09","modified_gmt":"2023-07-20T06:20:09","slug":"mcdonalds-first-ever-green-restaurant-in-singapore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/mcdonalds-first-ever-green-restaurant-in-singapore\/","title":{"rendered":"MCDONALD\u2019S FIRST EVER GREEN RESTAURANT IN SINGAPORE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>McDonald\u2019s Jurong Central Park is the first restaurant in Singapore to be awarded the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award, the highest accolade in the newly created Green Mark for restaurants.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The restaurant which was officially opened on 22nd May 2011 is located at Jurong Central Park, an 8-ha regional park in the Jurong West area across from the Boon Lay MRT Station and Jurong Point.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/mac03.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9089\" src=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/mac03-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"mac03\" width=\"1000\" height=\"666\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/mac03-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/mac03-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/mac03.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The park is the first in Singapore to have life-size board-game features (including Snakes and Ladders and Ludo based on the traditional indoor children&#8217;s board games), with greenery, sculpted terrains, and various play equipment used to create the board-game features.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The park site retains its existing wetland to complement the existing plants at the site to help bring visitors closer to nature. The wetland also serves as a habitat and magnet for dragonflies, birds, and other wildlife species, bringing nature back to the urban environment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To blend into the greenery of the Park and also return green space at the building site before the restaurant was built, its entire mushroom-shaped roof is planted. Crowned by the extensive green roof, a refreshing carpet of green, McDonald\u2019s Jurong Central Park is amongst McDonald\u2019s first restaurants to be certified &#8216;green&#8217; in Asia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/mac04.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9090\" src=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/mac04-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"mac04\" width=\"1000\" height=\"665\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/mac04-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/mac04-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/mac04.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nApart from enhancing the aesthetic appearance and helping in assimilation into green surroundings, the greening of the roof helps to protect the rooftop waterproofing as well as the roof skin itself from extreme UV exposure. Ambient temperature is considerably reduced and the interior of the building kept cool, even though its exterior faces the full brunt of the sun. This effectively reduces irrigation frequency and maintains healthy plant growth.
