Touted as the new \u201csocial heart of the East\u201d, it unites a shopping mall, a business hub, premium residences, and a beautiful and modern alfresco square in a unique and modern enclave.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13392\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PLQ2.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13392\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13392\" src=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PLQ2.jpg\" alt=\"Aerial photo of Paya Lebar Quarter (source: Payalebarquarter.com)\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PLQ2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PLQ2-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-13392\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aerial photo of Paya Lebar Quarter (source: Payalebarquarter.com)<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Built on a wide canal 25 m wide connected to the Geylang River, the reviving and modernization of the area is not only on the surface but underground as well.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, due to the increased intensity of rainfall, mainly as a consequence of climate change, the Public Utilities Board of Singapore (PUB) made it compulsory for public squares, malls and building compounds to have a stormwater management system to prevent flooding.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 1000px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('video');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-13357-1\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/New-video1.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/New-video1.mp4\">http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/New-video1.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Before<\/span><\/em>\u00a0(Video by Web Earth)<br \/>\nPrior to the installation of the stormwater management system, heavy rainwater would generally translate into flooding.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Similar projects have adopted measures such as the construction of concrete detention tanks with an expensive pumping system to pump out the water from the underground tank to reduce stormwater run-off and manage rainwater drainage and collection. Moreover, maintenance tends to be more frequent with higher costs. However, a non-structural detention system was used as a solution due to the unique nature of this project and to meet the various requirements, including detention requirements of a maximum allowable peak runoff stated in PUB\u2019s Code of Practice for Surface Water Drainage.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13393\" style=\"width: 611px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PLQ7.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13393\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13393\" src=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PLQ7.jpg\" alt=\"The VersiTank\u00ae installation in progress.\" width=\"601\" height=\"431\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PLQ7.jpg 601w, https:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PLQ7-300x215.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-13393\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The VersiTank\u00ae installation in progress.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Thus, PLQ, designed by DP Architects Ltd, had installed more than 7,000 units of Elmich\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/products\/versitank-rainwater-tank\/\">VersiTank\u00ae<\/a> (easy to install, non-structural, stormwater management system), with a combined volume capacity of approximately 980 m<sup>3<\/sup>, about a third of an Olympic-sized swimming pool. <a href=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/products\/versitank-rainwater-tank\/\">VersiTank\u00ae<\/a> acts as a source measure which temporarily stores runoff, reducing the peak flow of runoff into the public drainage system during heavy rain occurrences.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13394\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PLQ3.png\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13394\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13394\" src=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PLQ3.png\" alt=\"Raingarden concept. Image by Grant Associates.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A series of rain gardens integrated with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/products\/versitank-rainwater-tank\/\">VersiTank\u00ae<\/a> underneath was designed (under ABC Waters\u2019 consultation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webearth.com.sg\/\">Web Earth<\/a>) to prevent runoff consisting of debris from entering directly into the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/products\/versitank-rainwater-tank\/\">VersiTank\u00ae<\/a> system. Furthermore, the cost-effective and versatile sub-surface installation of <a href=\"http:\/\/elmich.com\/asia\/products\/versitank-rainwater-tank\/\">VersiTank\u00ae<\/a>, enveloped with geotextile, allows rainwater to penetrate into the sub-surface tank, whilst preventing solid particles such as sand, mud, and clay from clogging the system.
