VersiCell® 3050 | Drainage Cell

What is VersiCell® VC3050

VersiCell® 3050 is a lightweight, high strength modular drainage cell designed primarily for sub-surface drainage, and to form tanks for underground stormwater infiltration or storage.

VersiCell®  3050 is manufactured from high strength polypropylene and used in the construction of roof gardens, plaza decks, basements, pond filtration systems, concealed drains, pre-cast and in situ drains and sports fields.

VersiCell® 3050 when installed between roof decks and pavers or ballast, VersiCell® 3050 drainage cells reduce sound transmission and increase heat insulation.

VersiCell® 3050 is designed to withstand loads imposed by mechanical equipment such as bob-cats.

Available in 30 mm high modules, VersiCell® 3050 modules interlock in the same plane, at right angles to one another, or may be butted together.

Elmich was one of the pioneering drainage cell suppliers in Singapore. As an experienced drainage cell supplier and manufacturer, users can be assured of the quality and durability of  VersiCell® 3050.

VersiCell® 3050 drainage cells are used for sub-soil drainage and to form tanks for underground water infiltration or storage systems in:

  • Landscape decks & planter boxes
  • Plaza decks, balconies & pool sides
  • Sports fields & golf courses
  • Roof gardens
  • Concealed drains
  • Retaining/basement walls
  • Storm drains
  • Pond filtration
  • Infiltration & storage tanks
  • Sub-surface drainage systems
  • Water Sensitive Urban Designs (WSUD)
  • Groundwater management
  • Sports field drainage
  • Road edge drains
  • Interlocking cellular drainage modules
  • Compressive strength of at least 100 tonne/m2
  • Can accommodate both static and dynamic loads during and after installation
  • Has a good resistance to petroleum-based chemicals and naturally occurring soil chemicals
  • Ensures a total flow rate of at least 16.5 l/m/s for maximum rainfall under Singapore Code of Practice SS 525 : 2006
  • Manufactured from recycled plastics
  • Easy to install by interlocking one to another or simply by abutting
  • Can flex and conform to curved surfaces
  • Approximately 2% of the aggregate weight of gravel for equivalent drainage discharge capacity
  • Provides drainage weep-holes at perimeter
  • Significant weight savings compared to gravel equivalent
  • Protects waterproofing membranes
  • Provides hear and sound insulation
  • Prevents build-up of hydrostatic pressure in retaining walls
  • Minimises efflorescence & algae
  • Allows for herringbone drainage configurations
  • Narrow profile allows a greater soil depth in planter beds and thus a wider variety of plants to be used
  • Modules may be interlocked to form continuous large panels
  • Easy Installation reduces on-site disruption
  • Nesting and stacking capabilities reduces storage and transportation costs
  • Extremely efficient water drainage abilities
  • Sustainable and environmentally friendly
  • Supports Green Label Certification

Landscape Deck Application

  1. In new roof application ensure that root-resistant waterproofing membrane is installed.
  2. If existing roof waterproofing is not root resistant, install root barrier membrane.
  3. Ensure waterproofing integrity by conducting ponding test for at least 24 hours.
  4. Ensure fall is towards drainage outlet/s.
  5. Provide adequate protection for waterproofing system during installation.

Installing Sub-surface Drainage Modules

  1. Protect VersiCell® 3050 from excessive UV exposure by storing under tarpaulin or under shade when time from delivery to installation exceeds one week.
  2. Position drainage modules directly over waterproofing membrane.
  3. Install directly over drain outlets.
  4. Interlock adjacent modules along connecting edges.
  5. Form large stable mats for large areas.
  6. Cut modules to size or to fit into corners, at drainage gully, plinth or curved areas, as necessary.
  7. Protect drainage modules from construction traffic and be maintained free from silt, debris or other foreign material.

Geotextile Insulation

  1. Cover VersiCell® 3050 modules with Geotextile.
  2. Overlap adjacent Geotextile sheets at least 200 mm.
  3. Make sure that ends of all installed drainage modules are properly sealed with geotextile to ensure sand and soil particles do not enter the drainage modules.

Coarse Sand and Planting Soil

  1. Inspect draincell and geotextile installation prior to in-filling.
  2. Clay material should not be used as in-fill over the geotextile.
  3. Spread 20 mm of coarse sand evenly over geotextile.
  4. Make sure that geotextile filter is not damaged during in-filling process.
  5. In-fill regular planting soil (300 to 1000 mm according to project requirements or as advised), over the coarse sand layer, depending on plant species selected and depth limitations of planter boxes.
