Singapore Management University’s (SMU) new School of Law building was officially opened in March 2017 by Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the opening ceremony.
The 23,000 square metre building situated at the junction of Armenian Street and Fort Canning Link is easily identified as a notable landmark of the city campus. A key feature is the Kwa Geok Choo Law Library, named in memory of the late Madam Kwa Geok Choo, wife of former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.
Designed by MKPL Architects and constructed by Kajima Overseas Asia, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum awarded building fosters a collaborative learning environment by integrating a student campus with the surrounding city landscape. In addition, as the student population of SMU continues to increase, the new building will elevate the existing space crunch and promote social interaction.
In ensuring functional, superior and long-lasting water-tight structures within the building, an overall waterproofing system was implemented using suitable waterproofing membranes for a variety of applications.
EVALON® was used to waterproof the planter boxes for its excellent plant root resistant properties and superior quality
surpassing the European standards to protect the plants and adjacent surroundings for at least 30 years.

To provide water-tightness to wet areas, bathrooms and refuse collection points, Fleximent® was applied because of its properties to cure quickly and contains no chloride and salts, thus preventing corrosion and efflorescence.
